Accessibility Tester

Based in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Broad electronic communications accessibility knowledge, a compassion for accessibility, and organizational abilities
  • Well-versed in a variety of common electronic communication accessibility barriers people with hearing, physical, speech, cognitive, and vision disabilities experience
  • Capable of conducting comprehensive website, native mobile app, desktop app and document accessibility testing against the WCAG 2.0 Level A & AA Success Criteria as well as the Section 508, Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA), 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA), and PDF/UA requirements using the following methodologies: automated scans; screen reader reviews; browser toolbars and plug-ins; color sampling; keyboard only interaction; and code reviews
  • Ability to productively work independently or collaboratively as part of a diverse team, with minimal guidance.

Experience & Education Requirements

  • 2+ years of electronic communications accessibility analysis experience.
  • Related assistive technology knowledge and experience with JAWS, NVDA, and / or WindowEyes screen readers
  • Solid knowledge of Section 508 and W3C WCAG 2.0 standards.
  • Understanding of accessible user interface design practices and principles a bonus.
  • Knowledge of electronic communication accessibility barriers encountered by people with hearing, physical, speech, cognitive, and vision disabilities.
  • Strong organizational skills are central to the position.
  • Experience with MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and PDF accessibility is preferred.
  • Knowledge of AMP, Compliance Sheriff, WorldSpace applications, SharePoint, and Documentum, CQ5 or other content management systems is additionally advantageous.
  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

Accessibility Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Based in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

In addition to the above responsibilities and experience the SME requires the following:

  • Ability to suggest testable solutions designed to integrate with a dynamic code base.
  • Capable of performing an expert assessment of wireframes or screen mock-ups, websites, and native mobile app screens.
  • Command a keen sense of dynamic UI coding and design to understand when less is more and when it’s not from both an accessibility and usability perspective.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills and be able to productively work independently or collaboratively as part of a diverse team, with minimal guidance.
  • Interface with key stakeholders from various quarters to explain electronic communication accessibility barriers and potential solutions in everyday language as well as tech speak.
  • Possess a strong command of the English language in written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to teach methods & techniques for addressing accessibility barriers in a variety of forums.

Experience & Education Requirements

  • 5+ years of electronic communications accessibility analysis, design and development experience in large and highly dynamic environments.
  • Related assistive technology knowledge and experience with JAWS, NVDA, and / or WindowEyes screen readers.
  • Solid knowledge of HTML4 & 5, ARIA, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, Java and .net coding techniques, as well as US ADA law, Section 508, ACAA, CVAA requirements, and W3C WCAG 2.0 standards.
  • Strong understanding of accessible user interface design practices and principles a must—better still if you can demonstrate experience relating to Internet or mobile usability/accessibility research.
  • S. or Master’s Degree in information technology, human computer interaction, or related field considered an advantage. Equivalent experience accepted.
  • Extensive knowledge of electronic communication accessibility barriers, as well as strong organizational skills are both central to the position.
  • Solid experience with MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and PDF accessibility is preferred.
  • Knowledge of AMP, Compliance Sheriff, WorldSpace applications, SharePoint, and Documentum, CQ5 or other content management systems is additionally advantageous.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong techniques and methods for group facilitation and consensus building are a bonus.
